Month: April 2013

In February Nasty Gal revealed their lookbook for their Spring 2013 collection. Let’s just say the collection is highly coveted, to say the least. Staying true to Spring’s trends: sports-wear, 90s-wear, surf-wear, neon, pastel and swimsuits that can be worn as formal wear, this collection got it going on.

The price point ranging from $60 to $185, includes ball caps, visible zippers, fishnet, wetsuit style pieces, visors, bottoms styled over the navel. Over the years Nasty Gal has definitely set the example for trendy online stores who also truly ‘gets fashion’. So who better to describe the collection, “Beach goes beyond the outer limits of cool with sport-meets-space influence.” says Nasty Gal. See the full collection below.

Kerry Washington x InStyle Magazine

Kerry Washington stuns in the May issue of InStyle Magazine. Inside the spread, Kerry is photographed wearing top designer pieces, including Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, Peter Som, Erdem and Balenciaga.

What I love most about this spread is that each look stays true to Kerry’s signature style. Bold patterns and textures were the theme for this shoot, set inside a tropical furnished home. “As long as I feel good about what I’m wearing, it doesn’t matter if so-and-so calls it ugly” Kerry says. And we couldn’t agree more. See the looks below.

Chanel Nail Lacquer iPhone Cases

Happy [Fashion Finds] Friday all! So I’ve been searching for the perfect Chanel iphone case and low and behold this happened. Combining two of my favourites things I like to buy just because, polish and iphone cases. The genius this design house is, they decided that us ladies need to match our nails to our phone case. Chic much! They come in a variety of trendy colours that you would see in the polish bottles. The best part is, you really don’t have to break the bank to get your hands on one of these cases. They’re half the price of the polish itself and currently available over at Kate’s Remedy for only $25. Summer is near so it’s a good time to choose your Chanel shade.

Until next time, be sure to check back in next Friday to see what else I find.

Backless Bodysuit

Happy [Fashion Finds] Friday readers!
Bodysuits are such a hot item right now and I bumped into this backless style over at Sabo Skirt. It has that swimsuit-like spandex feel to it with thin straps, a low back and rounded neckline. It is unlined, but not to worry ladies because it’s not sheer. Even though it is a swimsuit piece you can still pair it with everyday pieces. Try out yours this season with some denim overalls and loafers for a festival look. As seen in the photo, another laid back look is tucked in some denim cutoffs. Priced at only $28 this basic piece can definitely take you throughout the summer.

Until next time, enjoy the find! Be sure to come back next week to see what else I find.

Coachella 2013 – Weekend One

Weekend one of Coachella is a wrap! But before I get started I must first admit, I only found out about this festival a year ago. Of all places, it was on Instagram. This was also around the exact same time I became a user on the app. Yeah I know, I’ve been living under a rock – don’t judge me. Instantly in my mind I was thinking how the heck can I get my butt to this festival?! To all the non festival goers for sure this may all seem a bit over hyped. Is it? Of course it is – but my thing is if you are a true music appreciator and fashion lover this is a great place to be. Surrounded by like minded people who share your same interest in music and fashion. Sounds like heaven right!

Let’s not forget the amazing lineup of artists – the once populars, up and comers, unknowns and the mainstreamers. Whether you know every artists on the list or just there to witness your favourite acts tear up the stage, it’s just a great time to take in new music.

As for the fashion, it’s pretty much wear what you want. No dress code needed here. There are of course the popular looks you will see – fringe, headbands, cowboy boots, floral prints, sundresses etc. All in all the fashion is fun, free spirited and an opportunity for you to display your own personal style.

See my favourite looks below from my Cochella experience that i’m living through social media. Who knows, you may just catch me out there next year, we shall see!

Cassie x Forever 21

With the recent release of her mixtape ‘RockaByeBaby’, the stylish beauty has landed herself as the new face of Forever 21’s Summer 2013 ‘Forever L.A.’ collection. I’m actually pretty siked as i’m a huge fan and frequent shopper at Forever 21. This time around i’m digging the direction of her new music so I think the timing is perfect for her. Less not forgot though, that Cassie has been doing the modeling gig before music. She’s modeled for ASOS, Calvin Klein One and Adidas.

With the fashion world’s current obsession with the 90s it’s only fitting that Forever 21 did their own take on the trend right! The collection includes bralettes, off-the-shoulder tops, overalls, printed harem pants, minis and rounded sunglasses.

See some of the looks below.

I must admit over the past year I’ve fallen in love with Aussie fashion. I mean it was pretty much love at first sight. Working for an Australian company has introduced me to that other side of the world. I’ve learnt a whole lot about the people, their lifestyle, culture and now the fashion.

So #mbfwa kicked off this week and a slew of talented designers were hitting the runways like nobody’s business. A very evident trend in Aussie fashion is their aesthetics – they have a very distinct taste in the way the fabric is cut and laid to the body. I would describe their style as simple sophistication, fuss free and comfortable. I mean I feel that I can wear alot of the pieces for any occasion – around house, out to lunch, at the office and for a big event. Pretty cool right! They’re just that versatile.

See my round up of runway favourites below.

Fashion Finds Friday: African Print Mini

Happy [Fashion Finds] Friday readers!
Came across this printed mini and it’s such a steal! It also has a Balmain-esque feel to it with the mix of patterns and gold spike touch. My rule of thumb: when wearing something short, create a really polished look by wearing something long sleeved or turtle necked on top. Team that with some pointed heels and clutch to add. Priced at $45 you cannot go wrong with this high fashion inspired piece, available over at UsTrendy

Until next time, enjoy the find! Be sure to come back next week to see what else I find.

Fashion Finds Friday: Lash and Lips Umbrella

Can this eyelash and lips umbrella be anymore cute? Possibly! A super chic item to take into Spring that sure will grab attention. Available over at $65.

4 Spring Favourites

With Spring in the air and summer just around the corner I’ve started to prep my ‘Warm Weather Wardrobe’ (something I’m actually doing for the first time). I’ve selected my four favourite trends for Spring/Summer. These are looks and pieces that work well with my style and I know that I can painlessly ease into my wardrobe. They’re pretty versatile and I can definitely mix and match with high and low pieces.

My rule of thumb when it comes to neon is ‘one neon at a time’. This is my personal preference and of course many can pull off more than one neon at a time, but I feel it gives the eye an opportunity to appreciate the other pieces in a look. More than one neon piece at a time and it can get a little too much as well if not done right. The infamous ‘pop of colour’ is your safe bet when pulling off the neon look. Day Look: Boyfriend jeans teamed with a slouchy neon yellow sweater and flats. Night Look: Crisp white fit and flare dress paired with neon pumps.

Black and White

This is quite possibly the easiest Spring/Summer trend to pull off. To keep this look looking current and fresh, ensure your whites are crisp and your blacks are at their blackest. There’s two ways to accomplish this look: Go monochrome in all black or all whites or you can mix and match your blacks with whites. The monochrome look can be done with an all black or all white palette. Another option is shades of blacks or shades of whites throughout a look. On the other hand, when mixing and matching your blacks with your whites, think colour blocking because this is essentially what you’re doing. Where there’s white in your look, do black and vice versa. Day Look: White tee slightly tucked in black leather shorts and complete with low heels and black messenger bag. Night Look: Black leather dress paired with white pointed heels and white clutch.

Shorts Suits

This look is definitely acceptable in the fashion office; the corporate office not so much. I love the freedom of mixing and matching with this look. If you’re not so much the daring type, you can keep it safe by wearing an allover neutral short suit. For the daring darlings, I encourage having fun with patterns, textures, lengths and fabrics. Day Look: Matching denim blazer and shorts with white slouchy tee and sneakers. Night Look: Light weight nude blazer, white top tucked in belted black leather shorts, finished with a studded clutch and neon pointed heels.

Statement Sneakers

Sneakers are no longer left to the sneaker heads anymore. Fashion ladies are putting their own personal spin on this rising trend. What I love is the direction this trend is headed – you can rock this item without having to compromise your own personal style. You can still be girly without having to go the complete streetwear route. Not to mention how easily the endless styles can be teamed with all your day looks. Day Look: A sun dress paired with wedge sneakers or skinnies tucked in wedge sneakers topped with a basic black tee.
