Paris Is Always A Good Idea!

Paris is always a good idea, right! Well lucky for you I found a t-shirt that pretty much says so, so you know it’s real. I had the amazing opportunity to chat with Lucian Matis to ask him a few questions about the collection and his inspiration. See a few of the excerpts from the interview  below.

On what made him go into home décor: Home décor to me seem like the next step into design. I’m an artist, I’m not  a fashion designer. This is just another artistic expression I think for the Lucian Matis brand. I love home décor, I love interior design.

Inspiration for the collection: Industrial design, old antique, aged products with a story and a history. The cow hide pieces are unique with their own identity.

On whether his womens collection influenced Lucian Matis Home: Oh absolutely. A lot actually, the use of the same material, the same kind of raw materials. The leather, I have a lot of leather embossed. Also certain techniques like the beading and embroidery and basket woven products. There’s quite a lot.

On the difference between clothing design and interior design: Design is pretty much designing. It’s the same because I start with the end result most of the time. I think of what message I want to send and what is this used for.

On his customers: We have two shops, it’s very interesting because we get  a lot of feedback, it’s coming from two different markets. You have the regular affluent established clientele at Shops at Don Mills and then you get the more touristic and younger clientele at Eaton Centre. It’s very well-balanced between female and male.
