Mirina Collections Vintage Multi-Layer Bib ‘Annie’ Necklace

Hello ladies!

I had to update this post after information was brought to my attention about the Mirina Collections ambassador program. Initially I was approached to be apart of their brand ambassador program. Of course I was excited and accepted the offer because as a blogger it’s flattering when brands reach out to you. It’s like a validation or stamp of approval of your social media influence and they see that in you. On their website they state that they are a fashion jewelry house based in New York, where each design is made to order. Seems legit and harmless right, well that’s what I thought. Don’t get me wrong they do have some great necklaces with a wide range of affordable styles to choose from. It’s just that their ambassador program is a bit sketchy and is using bloggers to bring traffic to their website and drive sales without actually following through with the set-up of the compensation side of things  (as mentioned in their program). In their initial email to you they state that you have to first purchase a necklace and you recieve a discount by using the coupon code they provided. That didn’t raise a red flag for me because I get it, not all brands can afford to ship out free products to dozens of bloggers. Once I placed my order I received a confirmation email including my very own coupon code. Sweet right! Just to see your very own personal code to give to your followers, it felt good. They also made sure to include in a separate welcome email explaining that due to design and production times shipment will take approx 3-4 weeks. Still in my mind I was thinking cool, i’m in no rush to receive this necklace anyways. It actually took over 6 weeks for me to receive my necklace and only after I followed up twice, once on December 29, 2015 and then again on December 31, 2015. I recieved a response the same day of my second follow-up and my item was shipped on January 4, 2016 and I saw it in my mailbox on Janauary 4, 2016. When I received the necklace it was packaged nicely, but it wasn’t the highest of quality. Then again I wasn’t really expecting Tiffany quality, I liked it for what it was. Something that did not register to me at all was the legitimacy of my personal coupon code. It was only brought to my attention today by someone on Instagram when I posted about the necklace. I then tested it for myself by creating an order on their website and what do you know, the coupon code was invalid. I immediately removed this information from both my Instagram post and this blog post. I absolutely do not want to promote anything that was not true to my followers or anyone on social media. I brought my concerns up to the Mirina team and instead of trying to resolve the issue they continued to respond in a bullying and agressive manner referring me to their ‘policy’. This immediately made it official that I was dealing with an individual who is operating under unethical business practices. Not to mention that they are reselling cheap jewelry for more than triple the actual retail price, and then promoting it as being hand made by their team. I would ask for my money back but I think they need it most.

I hope I’ve brought some attention to this issue with some Instagram boutiques who are operating using bad business practices and potentially not being honest with bloggers. Ladies be careful out there and if something seems off about a brand or you get a bad vibe from the get go, run! Better yet, do not respond to them at all. In all cases they will contact you first via email or direct message. The last thing you want to do is promote false information to your followers and readers. You also don’t want to be used to promote a brand when you will not be compensated for it. Comment below if you’ve experienced something like this before and what happened.

On the brighter side of things, I did get some really good shots in with this necklace and I still want to share this look with you below.

Happy Friday readers!

Spring is here and you know what that means! Summer is near! The warmer weather just makes life better. We can’t be friends if you disagree with that – ok just kidding! Well a little. With all my excitement for summer on its way I had to round-up all the items and style that will be on repeat in my wardrobe all season. You’re mixing it up, but at the same time you’re staying true to your style.  This is how the world will know that this is your uniform. With that said, see my round-up of this Summer’s wardrobe.

Crop Stuff

Lately, this has been one of my favorite looks to wear when I go out. It’s feminine enough to show off your curves, and it also shows just the right amount of skin to remind the world that you’re also a lady. The crop top is still a huge trend – a great basic piece to have in your wardrobe to mix and match with dressy and casual pieces. Here I paired my striped piece with a satin pencil skirt and ankle strap heels all from Sirens. Kept my accessories to a minimum, all in gold and finished with a patent clutch.

Biker Babe

This is one of two of the biker jackets I own. I’ve had it for over 5 years now and to be honest it’s starting to show some wear and tear (sad face). I have though, been eyeing two replacement choices, one from H&M another from Zara – so next season I will make that decision. I paired this jacket from Suzy Shier with a mini skirt from Sirens to balance the look and a white V-neck t-shirt tucked in. The t-shirt is from Urban Outfitters and it’s absolutely one of my new favorite places to buy t-shirts. I really find that their t-shirts are made with the perfect amount of looseness to give you that relaxed look and feel. Super comfy of course and affordable too. To finish the look I wore one of the season’s hottest trends – ankle strap heels with buckle detail – also from Sirens. Accessories were kept to a minimum, with gold bangles and a gold watch.

Pink Please!

One of my favorite trends right now is the sneaker plus dress combo. In this look I paired a soft pink sheath dress with some easy slip-on sneakers. I initially purchased this dress last year to wear to a boat cruise – if this was me five years ago, that’s pretty much the only wear this dress would have received. These days I’m adopting the mantra that if I cannot wear an item both day and night, I won’t make the purchase. I’m trying to stay away from labeling my pieces as ‘occasion specific’ clothing and giving them as much wear as possible. I mean, of course some pieces will be purchased for specific occasions, but the point is not to limit that piece to one wear, one occasion.

Is it summer yet? There is just something about when the weather gets warmer – my mood is a lot more up beat, I notice that people are definitely more cheerful and for me personally its way easier to pick outfits out. Lately I’m getting into having flowers in my place, for now I go faux, but definitely will go the real deal soon. It is true what they say about flowers, it does lift  your spirits and put you into a much better mood. To kick-start this season I had to pull out one of my favourite pieces to rock when the weather gets warmer. Denim cutoffs are a must for me for the warmer weather. It’s a classic piece that you can pretty much pair with anything for a casually cool summer afternoon. in this look I paired mines with a white tee, blazer and nude pumps.

Kick Start Spring!

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always stuck to the usual when wearing sneakers. I would pair mines with the obvious sweats, shorts, track pants etc. But these days, I’ve been inspired by fellow bloggers and of course the new ‘sporty chic’ rise of fame to feel free to wear my sneakers with whatever I want. As a whole, I feel that fashion has become less strict and a tone of rules are being broken. Us ladies are not just restricted to wearing an evening dress at cocktail hour, sneakers at the gym, or swim suits at the beach. We are seeing more and more people breaking the rules and making that ‘occasion specific’ piece work any time of the day, month or year. With all this said, see my round up of 7 ways to look super chic in your sneakers this spring  and summer.

photoSpring has definitely sprung and I couldn’t be more happier! Naturally we all start to ‘Think Spring’ and what to wear for the warmer season ahead. Lucky for you I’ve rounded up the top five season’s best for you to incorporate into your wardrobe this season. With sporty and versatile as the watchwords for Spring/Summer, you will find tons of whites, sheers, clean lines and pastels. See some of my runway to street picks below to get you all excited for spring.

DKNY Spring 2014

DKNY Spring 2014

Sporty has never looked this good! This sporty trend has definitely given the tomboy girls a high-five. But of course adding heels will definitely elevate this look from day to night.

Alexander Wang Spring 2014

Alexander Wang Spring 2014

Put that pop in your sweater this season with a statement one that is! The bigger and bolder the print, the better so think ‘go hard or go home when it comes to this trend.

Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2014

Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2014

If you thought full skirts were going anywhere, well think again! They are back and in full effect (pun intended). Pair yours this season with a cute crop top or keep it office friendly with a light sweater tucked in.

Calvin Klein Spring 2014

Calvin Klein Spring 2014

My rule of thumb when wearing sheer is to keep your under garment the same colour for a cleaner look.

3.1 Phillip Lim

3.1 Phillip Lim

Talk about a shift in your shirt right! Being a huge fan of these tops I cannot stress how well they pull your entire look together. Try it in a crisp white and mix and match it with all your bottoms (skirts, shorts, denim, pencils etc.).

7 Ways To Wear Neon

Spring is right around the corner and soon it will be time to bust out the color, without any apology given. If you’re unsure how to wear neon, my tip is to wear one neon at time – keep everything else neutral tones. Choose one stand out piece, either it be your bag, your shoes or necklace, you can never go wrong. To get you prepared for Spring, see some style-worthy looks for you to try below.

Color-blocking at it’s best! Pairing two neons together, then off-setting it with our favorite print leopard.

This a great example of wearing one neon at a time. Keeping everything else neutral tones, this styler made the sweater here focal point in this look.

Bright coats are huge this season and with this lightweight style it can easily be taken into Spring.

This look may just be the easiest way you can add neon to your outfit. Black and white, then grab your new neon bag that you will wear all through Spring/Summer.

Choosing a neon colored pants is an unexpected way to update your look at the office.

A neon floral dress paired with black ankle boots gives this outfit an even mix of feminine and tough.

This is a great minimalist look, while giving the illusion of a tall lean physique. Keep accessories at a minimum and voila!

Solange For Cosmopolitan

Solange puts her enviable style on display for us to drool over for Cosmopolitan’s March 2014 issue. Cosmo captured some awesome shots in New Orleans, where Solo currently lives, capturing the singer’s style for the upcoming Spring season. Photographed in tons of pastels, a style Cosmo calls ‘femme but fly’ Solo gives us her take on this trend.

“When I think of pastels, I think of Easter Sunday. But designers are doing them in a really cool way. Just stick to the minimalist silhouettes and modern fabrics.”

See snippets of the shoot below.

Can we say yes please! Totally digging this MCM Elda Saffiano envelope style clutch Solange is holding.
